Partitura-Verlag prices lowered

As of 1 June 2010, Partitura-Verlag has lowered the prices of many of their publications, which can be purchased online at our classical sheet music website http://www.elkinmusic.com/exclusive-distribution.php.  Partitura-Verlag publications are unique in that all ensemble players read from a full score of the music, each with her own part highlighted.

Digital Classical Sheet Music?

The question regarding the future of printed classical music arises often. Will sheet music become obsolete? As the world moves ever faster toward digital delivery of books, can music scores be far behind? Already a great deal of music is available for digital download.  Aside from popular music singles (which are quite readily available for digital delivery), digitized classical music includes free scores for material that is in public domain, as well as scores for purchase from various publishers. While digital delivery of shorter works may be a viable option, publishers who specialize in classical sheet music are not rushing to explore the world of digital downloads.  To my knowledge, none of them have even considered such a move, nor do they have plans to do so in the near future.  There are many reasons for this, but perhaps the primary reason is the end product. Serious students and professional musicians usually consider their purchases of sheet music to be an investment. It is safe to assume that musicians today do not have the equipment (nor the patience) to print out an investment-quality version of, say, the Beethoven Piano Sonatas.  High-quality, acid-free paper as well as double-sided printing, durable collation and binding are all beyond the means of most home or office printing equipment. And should these elements of home publishing be available, it is doubtful the cost would be less than that of the actual published scores. Not to mention the time taken to produce the end product. With published scores available for purchase online and with speedy delivery from most vendors (visit www.elkinmusic.com to buy now), traditional music publications appear to be safe.  For now, anyway.
